I first visited the Hawai’i in Feburary 2003. Admittedly, I went there for all of the wrong reasons, but found myself in love with the ‘aina. At first I thought it was just a rub off of my initial motivation to visit, but over the last 5 years I’ve determined that it is indeed a love a part from that initial visit. I have returned to the islands, and the Big Island specifically, as many times as I was afforded over the years. My love has not dwindled, I’ve worked very hard to make the dream of moving to Hawai’i a reality. I have constantly heeded warnings about moving to the islands, although I listen to the advice I must give myself a shot at living in the island despite what happens.
Last month, I purchased a home in Ka’u, and my present home is currently under contract. If all goes well I will be an island resident in the next 45 days. I’m happy, and nervous. I want to succeed in this endeavour, start slowing life down a bit, growing my own food, and just maybe not go to sleep hoping I won’t wake up.
